You’d probably think that as a guy who sells and builds Cornhole games, I’d be playing all the time. Unfortunately, nothing could be further from the truth. I honestly couldn’t tell you how long it’s been since I last played a proper game of Cornhole, or even threw a few bags just to keep the rust off.
However, this past weekend, it was near 80º here in South Carolina and we actually had some free time around the house. This, in and of itself, is amazing. Not the temperature, but the free time. I was busy cooking up a mess of BBQ for the family to enjoy while watching Wrestlemania 27. Now, I could lie to you and say we only watch it because the boys like it, but I won’t. I like watching it too.
Anyhow, it was around noon, and the wife said “Why don’t you get the boards out and we’ll go play for a bit?” Stunned, I ran out and got them. She almost never wants to play it seems. Apparently the nice weather went to her head, but nonetheless, I was getting the boards out.
We played a few rounds with the kids, for about 2 hours, and I realized that I really have lost my touch with the game. I made a few shots, but mostly slid my bags off the board. This was endlessly amusing to my kids, and I got more trash talk from them than I ever heard in my life. But it was FUN and that was the point. FUN. As a family, it was a blast.
I’d be remiss if I didn’t mention that I was playing with these brand new stop n’ slide bags, available through Everything4Cornhole.com and soon to be available here at Cornolina.com. One side of the bag is the standard duck cloth in any of 21 colors, and the other side is made of suede, available in 10 colors, so you have plenty of choices to customize your bags to your liking. The benefit of these bags really comes into play if you’re one who throws a flat bag. If you want it to stop exactly where you land it, then you throw suede side down, if you prefer a slide, you land it cloth side down. And, being filled with plastic pellets, these things are virtually weather proof. I highly recommend these bags.
The main thing I wanted you take away from this is that you should be playing with your family and friends whenever you get the chance. It doesn’t have to be in a tournament, or competition even. Just get your loved ones together and toss some bags. It’s simply a great way to spend time together and hey, if you win, you’ve got bragging rights until the next time, right?
